Position Description: Board Member - Treasurer
The board is the governing authority of the Association. In general terms, the board is responsible for directing, influencing, controlling and monitoring the Association.
The board carries out its governance role by developing and monitoring corporate policies, providing strategic planning to the corporation.
Individually, each board member will
• Act in the best interest of the Association
• Make serious commitment to participate actively on the board
• Hold confidential all proceedings of the board.
• Act as a reasonable and prudent person would in comparable circumstances.
• Prepare themselves well for meetings, and reviews and comments on minutes and reports.
• Ensure he/she avoids conflicts of interest including operating in the best interest of the Association not in self-interest or the interest of a stakeholder group
• Respect confidentiality policies that pertain to membership and board discussions
• Bring his/her own skills, experience and knowledge to the organization
• Support board decisions once they have been voted on
• Performs other responsibilities assigned by the Board

Duties of the Treasurer role:
• Services as Financial Officer of the organization, and chairs the Finance Committee
• Manages the board’s review of and action items related to the board’s financial responsibilities
• Works with the Executive Director to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the board on a timely basis
•Assists the Executive Director in preparing the annual budget and presents the budget to the board for approval
•Provides advice regarding grant applications
•Reviews the annual audit and answers board members’ questions about the audit
•Brings forward a recommendation to the Board when necessary to appoint an appropriate auditor
•Manages financial policies and procedures
•Ensures legal compliance with government organizations as required, including Employee Remuneration and Government Remittances (taxation)

Fund Development:
•Recognizing that Association of Canadian Safety Professionals (ACSP) is a not for profit, requirement for all board members to support ACSP in soliciting contributions from funders in the community, 100% support and commitment from Board Members on an annual basis is expected.
Goal of Position: Association of Canadian Safety Professionals (ACSP) is a public interest not-for-profit organization, founded in 2015. ACSP firmly believes in the key role played by safety professionals in prevention of workplace injuries, illnesses and fatalities and upholds this as its organizational vision “Workplaces with no injuries, illnesses and fatalities through contribution of Safety Professionals”.
Currently the profession of Occupational Health and Safety is a non-regulated one in Canada and recent graduates and newcomer safety professionals seem to face many challenges in pursuit of pursuing this as a profession. ACSP is taking the lead to provide exclusive mentorship and support to recent graduates and internationally trained newcomer safety professionals to help build their profession on a strong foundation.
There is a growing demand for occupational health and safety professionals and there is a need to prepare more professionals to be ready and skilled to meet that demand.
Association of Canadian Safety Professionals is currently establishing its governing leadership team and is looking for a treasurer to join our board of directors.

While we do ask that our board members play an active role, we also believe in team work and supporting each other; as one of our core value, ACSP will provide opportunities for our members to learn and grow with the organization.

This leadership opportunity is best suited for an individual who has a passion for contributing and leaving a legacy in an association that believes that nothing we do is worth getting hurt for and no one should be injured or lose their life at work.
