Position Description: Duties & Responsibilities:
• Support isolated and over burdened families by engaging
children in activities as defined by the family and program
• Set achievable goals with client during family visits
• Communicate with client about acceptable activities for their
• Provide quality attention and care for clients children,
ensuring the safely of infant(s)/children at all times
• Consult and debrief with Coordinator, Volunteer Resources
regarding challenging or difficult situations

- Parents remain in the home with volunteers at all times
- Volunteers do not provide personal or medical care
- Provide invaluable support to isolated and overburdened families
- Maintain client confidentiality within the parameters defined by Peel Health
• Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to uphold confidentiality regarding client family’s situations
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Convey empathy and compassion while practicing patience
Minimum Age : 18 years old
Length of Commitment:
• Minimum three months
• Possibility of extension with client’s approval/ongoing participation in program
Hours: Weekly three hour visit at the client’s home at a mutually
agreed time with a telephone call to the client one day prior to
every visit
Location: Location to be determined. We have a high need in the Dixie-Bloor area. We will work with the volunteer to provide a client match at a convenient location. We have clients all over Peel.
Transportation: A car may be needed, some of our clients are on a bus route.
Clients: Families with young children in Peel

• Those working towards a social work, ECE, nursing or teaching diploma or degree
Goal of Position: To provide competent and reliable in home family support to promote healthy growth and development of children.
A child's early years - from before birth to age six - are very important. Healthy babies are more likely to develop into healthy children, and healthy children are more likely to grow up to be healthy teenagers and healthy adults.This volunteer position supports Ontario's Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program

Training Details: Orientation - Orientation to Peel Health ; Training is required - MFIPA & PHIPA training ; Scheduled training
